40 Days of Praying

Against Spiritual Blindness

By November 1, 2020No Comments

Today, you can state obvious truths like “men are not women,” “killing babies for convenience is murder,” and “Jesus Christ is the only way to be saved,” and many people will deny it. They may even label you as hateful or a bigot. The Bible calls this condition “spiritual blindness.” The god of this world—Satan—has blinded many people to the truth (2 Cor. 4:3–4). The devil whispers things that appeal to people’s prejudices and sin nature, and they latch on to it. We are all susceptible to this condition. Only by the Holy Spirit can spiritual blindness be cured.

Pray that God opens the eyes of those who are spiritually blind. Pray that they see their need for a Savior, God’s love for them, and God’s provision in Jesus Christ. And pray that they place their faith in Christ alone for eternal life. The future success of our nation depends on our spiritual sight—on Americans placing their faith in Jesus. And once our short lives on this planet are over, our eternal destiny depends on it. For one day, our amazing nation will end. But God’s perfect kingdom will last forever.

A Prayer for America

Heavenly Father, You sent Jesus into the world to open the eyes of the blind and to save the lost. Lord, I know that the physical blindness You healed on earth points to the much deeper spiritual blindness we are all born with. Unless You healed me, I would not have seen the glory of God in Your loving face either, Lord Jesus. Thank You for opening my eyes so that I could see the truth and be saved. Lord Jesus, give spiritual sight to the millions of people in America who are spiritually blind and don’t even know it. In Your name I pray, Lord Jesus. Amen.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,

Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor.

He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives,

And recovery of sight to the blind,

To set free those who are oppressed,

To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.

—Luke 4:18–19
