Many Christians have been wrongly taught to retreat into holy huddles and remove themselves from the arts, academia, and politics. But every area where Christians retreat from is taken over by Satan and false worldviews. On the contrary, God calls us to extend His influence into every area of life. In Matthew 6:10, Jesus taught Christians to pray: “Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven.” If we pray to extend God’s kingdom and will on earth, then we should work to extend it as well, and not just through evangelism and personal holiness but also through involvement in our local, state, and federal governments—to be the righteous leaders our nation needs. We know that God’s will is only perfectly accomplished on earth when Christ returns. But that is no excuse not to follow God’s will now.
The Bible declares—and the Constitution rightly recognizes— that every adult citizen of the United States is its leader because God commands us all to lead. We cannot abdicate this responsibility. Today, America is in crisis. Our nation needs godly men and women to lead—and God may be calling you to do it.
A Prayer for America
Heavenly Father, You created me in Your image, to fill, subdue, and rule Your world. Thank You that I live in a country that recognizes Your design that every person is royalty and that every person has the privilege—and the responsibility—to rule on Your behalf. Inform me if You want me to run for office or to support a godly candidate who will. May Your kingdom come and Your will be done, on earth, Lord, as it is done in heaven. In Your name I pray. Amen.
God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
