40 Days of Praying

For First Responders

By October 7, 2020No Comments

Jesus said in John 15:13, “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” Firefighters, paramedics, police officers, and emergency medical technicians are our lifelines in the worst of times. They are the first to arrive on the scene of a disaster and selflessly step into danger. They often only have seconds to evaluate a situation and make critical decisions. Their skill and courage save countless lives. We should never take them for granted.

Mark 10:43 says, “Whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant.” If you see a first responder, thank them for their heroic work. Pray that God gives them wisdom and courage for the difficult situations they face. Pray that they get the resources they need to perform their jobs with excellence. And be an advocate for them in your community.

If you are a first responder, thank you. We appreciate what you do for us every day. We are praying for you. Your jobs are high in stress, so be sure to stay connected to God by drawing strength from His Word (the Bible), from His people (the church), and from Him directly, through prayer.

A Prayer for America

Heavenly Father, thank You for calling brave men and women to serve as first responders. Please give all our police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and other emergency personnel wisdom, courage, training, protection, and the resources they need to conduct their jobs with excellence. Help me to respect them as they deserve. Bless their families, and give them Your peace. And help me to honor those who lost their lives in the line of duty. These men and women serve with greatness. I ask this in the name of Your Son, who served us to the point of death on a cross: our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In His name I pray. Amen.

I am the Lord your God, who upholds your right hand,

Who says to you, “Do not fear, I will help you.”

—Isaiah 41:13
