40 Days of Praying

For Law Enforcement

By October 6, 2020No Comments

To honor God, we must obey law enforcement. In fact, the only time to disobey a law or civil authority is if they are forcing you to do something sinful. Then you should disobey, as Daniel did in Daniel 6:5–10, or as the early Christians did in Acts 4:18–31. In such cases, you have an obligation to a higher authority. You may incur a penalty for such disobedience, but you would be suffering for righteousness’s sake. And Jesus said in Matthew 5:10, “Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

But in any other instance, we must obey law enforcement. And we should pray for their safety, courage, and wisdom. Finally, we should thank them for performing the difficult job they have to do. God expects us to do nothing less for His ministers.

A Prayer for America

Heavenly Father, thank You for our nation’s police officers, judges, border patrol agents, ICE agents, and intelligence officers who restrain evil and keep us safe. They perform an often dangerous and thankless job. I thank You for them, Lord, and I do not take them for granted. Give them courage, strength, protection, resources, and wisdom. May they see their jobs as being Your ordained ministers for our good. I look forward to the day when You will crush all evil under Your foot forever, and our legal system will no longer be necessary. Until then, I obey it as an act of worship to You. It’s in Your name I pray, Lord Jesus. Amen.

It [civil government] does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil.
