40 Days of Praying

For Pure Sexuality

Since the beginning of time Satan has been dangling a lie in front of us that says, “Sin leads to freedom.” But sin always leads to slavery. You cannot sin just a little bit and stop. When you sin once, you sin again and again. Peter said it this way: “By what a man is overcome, by this he is enslaved” (2 Peter 2:19). Some of you are engaged in pornography, premarital sex, or an adulterous relationship, and you say, “I can stop any time I want.” Really? Then why aren’t you stopping now? Solomon said, “His own iniquities will capture the wicked, and he will be held with the cords of his own sin” (Prov. 5:22).

Following God’s rules leads to true freedom and happiness. As Paul wrote in Galatians 5:13, “You were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.”

Thankfully, our nation’s ideas of freedom can be recast. No matter what you may have done in the past, God will forgive you and give you a new start. I urge you, repent of your sins and find true freedom in Jesus Christ today.

A Prayer for America

Heavenly Father, You sent Your Son, Jesus Christ, to die on a cross to cancel my sin debt and to free me from the tyranny of sin and of Satan. You have raised me to spiritual life from death. You call me to leave the tomb of slavery and to be unbound from the rags of sin. How can I be entangled in them again? Help me to run from sexual temptation. Give me accountability partners who will help me walk the path to true freedom. Help me to deny myself, take up my cross, and follow You in love and service to others. Empower me to do this through the Holy Spirit. In Your name I pray, Lord Jesus. Amen.

Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. . . . If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.”
