40 Days of Praying

For Victory in Spiritual Warfare

Satan will try to discourage you from worshipping, serving, and obeying God. However, if you are in Christ, God has given you the power to resist temptation. The Bible says the same power that raised Jesus from the grave is now at work in your life, giving you the ability to say no to temptation and to “walk in newness of life” (Rom. 6:4).

So, how do you as an individual, and we as a nation, walk in newness of life? First, ask God to make you aware of Satan’s temptations. You must know your enemy’s schemes if you are to fight him. Second, as Paul said in Ephesians 6:10–18, use the armor of God to combat the devil, praying “at all times in the Spirit.” Third, pray for fellow Christians who are experiencing the same attacks. As believers, we all have spiritual targets painted on our backs. Finally, pray that God opens the eyes of all Americans to see their need for a Savior and to realize the spiritual battle they are in.

If enough Americans will follow these steps, then Satan’s attacks on them individually, as well as on our entire nation, will not succeed.

A Prayer for America

Heavenly Father, though I may not always realize it, I am always in a war with the devil, the enemy of my soul. He works through deceived people as well as my own corrupt desires to bring me down and to oppose Your perfect purposes. Thank You, Father, that no one can snatch me out of Your hands if I have trusted in Jesus for salvation. But Satan seeks to steal my joy, kill my witness, and destroy some of my eternal rewards. Help me—as well as other Christians throughout our nation—to resist the devil through Your Word, prayer, and Christian fellowship. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers,  against the world forces of this darkness,  against the spiritual forces of wickedness  in the heavenly places.
