40 Days of Praying

For Wisdom

By October 23, 2020No Comments

We all need wisdom in our lives. We all face pressures and injustices that could make us or break us. Pray for wisdom, not only for yourself, but also for your fellow Americans. Since we live in a democratic republic, the wiser our fellow voters are, the stronger our nation will be.

From big decisions to small, we must all learn to respond to the pressures of life with God’s perspective. If we do so, we can rise from even terrible circumstances to accomplish God’s glorious mission for us, a mission that will echo into eternity. If we do not, then we can fall even from a position of privilege to become a byword for all time. “The memory of the righteous is blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot. The wise of heart will receive commands, but a babbling fool will be ruined” (Prov. 10:7–8).

A Prayer for America

Heavenly Father, our nation needs wisdom today. Give America’s leaders wisdom as they make decisions, and grant wisdom to our citizens as we seek to honor You in our daily lives. Whenever we face injustice or difficulties, help us to respond with Your perspective. I realize that the potential for greatness, and for great evil, lies within every person, including me. Show me the right path, and give me the courage to take it. Thank You, Father, that in Christ Jesus—the embodiment of wisdom—You have given every Christian the Holy Spirit, which is the Spirit of wisdom. For You promise that if we ask You in faith, You will gladly give us wisdom. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

—James 1:5
