40 Days of Praying

To Do Our Jobs as for Jesus

It is not your position but your disposition that determines whether you are a success. You can be intelligent and talented, but if you are not willing to put in the hours with a good attitude, then your success, if you achieve any, will be short-lived. Solomon said, “Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men” (Prov. 22:29).

God’s Word says we do our work for God alone. It shouldn’t matter whether you are recognized by anyone; Jesus is the one you serve. But more often than not, if you do your work faithfully, with an attitude that honors God, you will rise to the top. This is the kind of attitude that keeps not only our economy—and our nation—strong, but also ensures that our work will have an eternal impact.

If you have been lazy or dishonest in your work, I urge you to repent and renew your commitment to work with excellence. Ask for God’s help, and pray that all Christians in our nation—regardless of position—do their jobs as for Jesus Christ.

A Prayer for America

Heavenly Father, help me to be faithful wherever You have placed me. May I do all my work as unto You, Lord Jesus. Your Word says that all labor is beneficial. Help me to work diligently, wisely, and as an act of worship to You. May I perform every task with excellence, knowing that You bless it. Give me patience with a difficult boss or coworkers, knowing that my time with them is temporary and has a perfect purpose. You see everything, and You will reward my honest, hard work. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.
